Yurt!

It's a word that begs to be shouted out. In a funny voice that sounds like a honk. I had no idea what a yurt was until I moved to Oregon, but a few short weekends ago, I found myself sleeping in one. Not quite a tent, not quite a cabin--but I am one cookie who does not do "outdoors" very well. So the compromise (in celebration of Mr. Nice Guy's and my 11th wedding anniversary) was this:

Disclosure: This photo is not the actual yurt in which we stayed. And I have no idea who that guy on the ladder is. I was too much of a space cadet (and on a billion allergy meds) to get a photo of our yurt. But it looked just like this one. Image from this site.

But here are my photos and the inside of our yurt was amazing.

The soaking tub was just big enough for the whole family to squeeze in. Someday a tub like that will be mine. At home, I pretend to soak in our pathetic sitz-bath that pretends to be a real bathtub.

And here is just about the highest bed I've ever slept in. I had to step up on the bottom edge of the frame to hoist myself up. We pushed an ottoman-type storage cube against one side so Little Girl Nice Guy could climb up and down. She said she felt like The Princess and The Pea. She looks like a pea--that bed was so big.

We stayed just outside Seaside and the weather was so kindly cooperative. Unlike now.

Oh, to be on vacation again.

Back to Life

We've had our "real summer" here in Portland for the last few weeks, but I've been stuck indoors with bronchitis and asthma and fatigue--lots of feeling sorry for myself. This was the first weekend in a while that I've been up and about, so I took advantage of both the weather and my improving health.

A morning at the farmers market.

Then a few meals outside on the back deck enjoying our garden. (Forgot to take snaps before the yummy food was eaten--oops!)

Playtime in the back garden. Pure luxury to just stop time and enjoy the warm air.

New Blog Name

The old name was cute, but difficult to remember and impossible to spell. Now we are The Unicorn and The Yeti, embracing flights of fancy, impossible adventures, and whimsical encounters.

In The Garden

This weekend, rain and a drop in temperature are expected, but a couple of weeks ago the weather was more cooperative. How lovely it was to be outdoors enjoying the sun. We are slowly putting our garden together and our girl has enjoyed mucking about in the dirt.

Guinnen and Gauchay/Goofus and Gallant

Ah...my own little corner of cyberspace. Hello there. Here I will share snippets of my simple life, along with the odd, funny, or deeply profound things my 3-year-old daughter says.

For example, the title of this blog comes from names my daughter made up for characters in a pulled-out-of-my-ear story I told her at bedtime one night. The names reminded me of Goofus and Gallant, the do-right/do-wrong brothers in a children's magazine.

Here is my daughter, running through a field of green. If only life could be like this every day.
